The Objective of The Norton Foundation, as contained in the Trust Deed is:-
To help, in the United Kingdom and in particular, without imposing any restraint, the Birmingham area and the County of Warwick, children and young persons under the age of twenty five years, who are in need of care or rehabilitation or aid of any kind, particularly as a result of delinquency, maltreatment or neglect, or who are in danger of lapsing or relapsing into delinquency.
It should be noted that, at present, the Trustees are normally restricting their grants to benefit young persons who live in the Birmingham/Coventry area or the County of Warwickshire.
The Trust makes two types of grant. Individual grants are made to individuals or families who make applications for assistance through various sponsors who are aware of our activities. Very occasionally a grant is made as a result of a personal application made by an individual person. Organisation grants are made to organisations whose objects are compatible with those of the Trust. Further details of the policy and administration of both types of grant are given below.
Grants to, or on behalf of, IndividualsThe Trustees consider applications for grants to individuals on a monthly basis. Grants are awarded up to a maximum of £500 per case subject to an overriding monthly maximum total. The vast majority of applications are received through sponsoring organisations such as Social Service Departments, Probation Service, schools and other educational establishments, voluntary relief organisations, Citizens Advice Bureaux etc. Grants are made for a wide variety of purposes and have included housing, clothing, training, education, holidays etc. Because of the regular meetings of the Grants Committee a quick decision can usually be reached on each application. Some sponsoring organisations hold block grants from which grants may be made at their discretion. Applications will be considered only if presented by a sponsor in a letter which complies with all the requirements set out in the guidance notes issued for this purpose. A copy of the latest edition of these guidance notes can be downloaded from this site. The guidance notes give details of all the information the Committee will need to arrive at their decision. Any application received without full information can be, and usually is, rejected. Individual persons who wish to make an application are advised to seek the help of some suitable sponsoring organisation. |
Grants to OrganisationsThe Trustees meet quarterly to award project grants to organisations. Grants are awarded to organisations who make successful applications for purposes which come within the objects of our constitution. Grants are made for a wide variety of purposes to organisations responsible for relief of homelessness, education and training, provision of facilities for the young, holidays for the disadvantaged and many others. The applications will normally be for the specific benefit of young people living within the Birmingham/Coventry area or the County of Warwickshire. Applications will be considered only if the application form is completed which can be downloaded from this site. Applicants should also send a copy of their latest financial statements. Any application received which does not comply with these requirements will be rejected. |
